Nagaur
Fair, also called as the Cattle Fair, is the 2nd largest animal fair
of India. Thousands of animals are gathered at the cattle fair for
trading. Traders come to buy and sell cows, bullocks (Nagauri breed
is renowned), oxen and camels. |
|
|
|
Every
year thousands of devotees throng the lake around the full moon day
of Kartik Purnima in October-November to take a holy dip in the
lake. Huge and colorful cattle fair "The Pushkar Fair", is
also held during this time. |

|
|
Urs
Ajmer Sharif: Held in the holy town of Ajmer in honour of the Sufi
saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, special prayers are offered at the
mosque, and huge amounts of consecrated food offered from the large,
steaming cauldrons that were a gift from Akbar. |

|
|
This
is a religious festival with simple and traditional rituals. On this
occassion tribals from the neighboring states of Madhya Pradesh and
Gujarat join their brethren from Rajasthan to offer prayers to Lord
Shiva. |

|
|
Gangaur
Festivals holds a special significance for the Rajasthanis. It is
celebrated in honour of Gauri, the goddess of abundance. Young girls
adorned in their best clothes pray for a spouse of their choice. The
married ladies pray for the welfare of their husbands. |
|
|
|
The
Mewar Festival is celebrated to welcome the advent of spring. It
coincides with the festival of Gangaur in Udaipur and has a unique
charm about it. The festival of Gangaur is very significant for
women of Rajasthan. |

|
|
Organized
in the only hill station of Rajasthan, this is the coldest place at
this time of the year. Folk dances and a general atmosphere of
gaiety prevails in this tiny hill resort and the tourist has ample
time to relax and enjoy. |

|
The
Shekhawati Festival held on I0th and 11th February every year is
organised jointly by the State Department of Tourism, District
administration of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu, and the M.R. Morarka-
GDC Rural Research Foundation. |

The
Brij Festival takes place a few days before Holi, (the festival of
colours) in the month of March. Held in honour of Lord Krishna, this
festival is marked by verve and zest. |

The
Camel Festival is an event organized in Bikaner by the Department of
Tourism, Art and Culture, Government of Rajasthan, every year in the
month of January. Desert region's Folk dances and Music, add on to
what is otherwise an exclusive camel affair. A festival when the
ships of the desert are seen at their best. |

|
Jaisalmer
exercise immense charm, but with the staging of the annual Desert
Festival (January - February), it has also become one of the more
important events on the annual calendar. |

Ganesh
Chaturthi marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated all over
the country. In Sawai Madhopur, the festival is rather special. The
temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha is located in the fort of
Ranthambore, about 12 kms from Sawai Madhopur and it is one of the
most important Ganesha temples in the State. |

Dussehra
is celebrated in Kota in Sep-Oct. This festival is celebrated all
over the country but the Kota Dussehra is quite unique for it marks
more than just the beginning of a festive period. |
